Predjama Castle

A remarkable looking castle that looks like it is growing out of a cave. Home to the legendary medieval knight of Erazem Predjamski who was besieged in this castle for several months for tax evasion. It did not end well for Erazem, but the legend was started. Located 9 km away from Postojna. You can tour the castle and the caves below it

Postojna Cave

Open every day. Containing 20 km of underground galleries, chambers and corridors, up to 50 meters high in places. Tours begin with a train journey into the cave system through several chambers before visitors get off and do a guided walk through stalagmite studded caverns. The train then returns you to the surface. The whole tour lasts 90 minutes. Tall travelers beware - the cave ceiling is very low in many parts of the train journey with sharp protrusions from the cave walls, and the train runs quite fast, so keep all bodily limbs (and children) well inside the moving vehicle! Other longer and more strenuous tours ("Underground Adventures") are available to groups of 2-50 people. The caves are damp and chilly (10 C year round) so appropriate shoes and clothing should be worn. €25.80/20.60/15.50 adult/student/child. Start of guided tours is at 10.00, 12.00, 14.00 from October to April and on every hour on the hour between 9.00 and 18.00 from May to September.

Triglav

Mount Triglav is the 2864-m high "Three-Headed" mountain found on everything Slovenian ranging from the national flag to Laibach's LP Krst pod Triglavom (Baptism under Triglav). While you don't need any climbing skills to ascend it, you should have no fear of heights or steep parts and you should trust your grip. Starting from the nearest mountain hut, the easiest route to the peak will take less than a day. There are many steep parts but everywhere there are cables and metal handles to hold on to. As on all mountains, the weather can be viciously changeable, with temperatures alternating between +30 and -10°C, even in summer. The routes to the top are open only between June and October, and ascending with a guide is, while not legally mandated, very advisable due to the labyrinthine route. Most climbers spend two nights on the route, although fitness nuts have been known to complete it in a single day.

Skocjan Caves

Divača is a town and municipality in the Coast and Karst region of Slovenia. It is known for the many limestone caves in the area, included the UNESCO listed Škocjan Caves.

Divača lies along the A1 motorway and the old main road from Senožeče to Koper, with a junction that also leads to Lokev. The Vremščica Ridge (1,027 meters or 3,369 feet) rises to the northeast, Čebulovica Hill (643 meters or 2,110 feet) to the north, and Kožlek Hill (517 meters or 1,696 feet) to the west. Tilled fields mostly lie to the northeast, and pastures to the northwest and southwest. There is pine forest to the northeast on Čebulovica Hill. Extensive afforestation has taken place in the area, especially in the 1890s and again after the Second World War. There are many caves in the area. Divača Cave (Divaška jama, depth 89 meters or 292 feet) and Snake Cave (Kačna jama, depth 280 meters or 920 feet) lie southwest of the village. The latter is considered one of the most attractive caves in the world and was named because of the many snakes there.

A tree of heaven plantation stands near the railroad station; it was used to cultivate eri silkworms in the 19th century. A water main was installed for the railroad in 1857, but the town was not connected to the water supply until 1948. Extensive afforestation of abandoned agricultural land took place in the 1890s and before the Second World War. The character of the town changed greatly after the Second World War, with the construction of new apartment buildings, a gym, a public library, stores, and other facilities.
